I, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness, who does not believe me naive or innocent, who has the courage to treat me like a woman.  ~ anais nin

    happy 50th to my dad.

my dad has set the standard for all the men that have and will come into my life.  my dad is the epitome of what it is to be hard-working.  though subtle in affection, with a faith thats hidden and quiet when his insides are probably screaming, he has raised me to believe that life isn't worth sweating the small stuff.  he has taught me and continues to remind me that the simpler your life, the more worthwhile it is.  he probably hates a lot of the personal choices ive made, but in the end he loves me anyway.  and i know this because he still cooks for me everyday... for my sister when she comes home after being gone for weeks.  not only does he cook, but he cooks our favorite meals... meals that we grew up with, meals that said... today is a special occasion.  times as a complete family have become rare, so special occasions have truly been made more "special".

i have realized that my parents-- my dad and my mom-- raised us girls right.  and i want to do the same for their grandchildren, my kids.  i dream of the day my husband goes out and takes the kids out for a picnic in the park on random weekdays.  or the day he takes them on random shopping trips (nothing over 15 dollars of course).  or the moments of long winding stories and lectures about history or life lessons he has learned himself.  or the times he has to learn extra patience when they go through their adolescence, the times he has to let them go to grow up...

he taught me the etiquette i needed to know.  he taught me to be courteous of others.  he taught me that people are always gonna think they're superior to you so just let them be and laugh it off on the inside.  he taught me that if you take care of something from the get go, it will be longer lasting.  he continually reminds me... that im truly fortunate and i have more than enough.

i love my dad.  wow, i really do.  he has set the standard for all men that have and will come into my life.  cheers to you, dad... happy birthday.
